Comparison · music video editing in Premiere Pro

MVX AI vs BeatEdit for music videos in Premiere Pro

BeatEdit puts markers on the beat. MVX AI cuts the music video.

BeatEdit 2 for Premiere Pro detects the beats in your song and marks them on your timeline, and Premiere’s Automate to Sequence can drop your clips onto those markers in order. MVX AI syncs your takes to the song, picks the best take for each cut, cuts on the beat, mixes in your B-roll and builds an “MVX Final” sequence. BeatEdit is a one-time purchase; MVX AI is a subscription.

The blue music-video editor mascot, in coral headphones, weighs two cards on a balance: a Premiere timeline and a boxed one-time purchase.

Which one fits you?

Two different jobs: marking the beat, or making the edit. Here’s when each one is the better pick.

Fits better if…

BeatEdit

  • You want to pick every shot yourself. BeatEdit gives you markers to cut to, and the choices stay yours.
  • You want to pay once. BeatEdit 2 for Premiere Pro is $99.99 for a single-user license. MVX AI has no one-time price for new customers.
  • You edit more than music videos. Slideshows, montages, travel edits: anything cut to a song. Its page shows automatic slideshows and rough cuts.
  • You also cut in After Effects or DaVinci Resolve. The store sells BeatEdit for After Effects and for DaVinci Resolve too. MVX AI runs only in Premiere Pro.
  • You’re on an older Premiere. Its page lists Premiere Pro CC 2015.3 up to 2026. MVX AI needs 2023 or later.
Fits better if…

MVX AI

We make this
  • You shot performance takes and want the edit built. MVX syncs every take to the song from its audio and picks the best take for each cut.
  • Your takes don’t all cover the whole song. MVX places each take where it sits in the song and fills the gaps with your B-roll.
  • You want B-roll mixed in. AI Cut mixes your B-roll between the takes: Off, Some or Lots.
  • You don’t want to export the song as a WAV first. BeatEdit reads audio files only. MVX reads the song you drop in and the song in each take’s audio.
  • You shoot log. MVX converts it for your camera and adds a look you can fine-tune.
  • You want to try it on a real project first. The trial is 3 days for $1, with 5 analysis hours.

What MVX AI doesn’t do

Worth knowing before you try it.

The music-video editor mascot raises one paw as if taking an oath, the other paw on a red manual.
  • It doesn’t finish the edit for you. It builds the first cut; the polish is yours.
  • It doesn’t run outside Premiere Pro. Premiere Pro 2023 or later; not After Effects, Final Cut or Resolve.
  • It doesn’t work offline. AI clip sorting and shot selection run in the cloud. Beat detection and effects work offline.
  • It can’t sync a take without the song in its audio. Those takes are treated as B-roll.
  • It isn’t unlimited. Plans include 10 or 30 analysis hours a month. Unused hours roll over while you’re subscribed, and 20 more cost $29.99.
  • It isn’t a one-time purchase. Plans are monthly or yearly. Older lifetime licenses are still honored.

Questions people ask

Installing, plans and every setting are in the MVX AI docs.

Is there a music video editor in Premiere Pro?

Premiere Pro’s own tools help you cut to a song: you set markers on the beat, and Automate to Sequence drops your clips onto them in order. They don’t pick your shots. Plugins do more. BeatEdit places a marker on every beat for you. MVX AI is a music video editor plugin that edits the music video for you: it syncs your takes to the song, picks the best take for each cut, cuts on the beat, mixes in your B-roll and builds an “MVX Final” sequence you can change.

Is MVX AI an alternative to BeatEdit?

For music videos with performance takes, yes, though they do different jobs. BeatEdit finds the beats and leaves the choice of shots to you. MVX AI makes those choices for you and leaves you a timeline to change. If you edit slideshows, montages or anything else to music and want every shot your own pick, BeatEdit is the closer fit.

Does BeatEdit edit the music video for me?

Not on its own. Its page says it detects the beats and creates markers, and that with Premiere’s Automate to Sequence you can create automatic edits in sync with the music, such as slideshows and rough cuts. Automate to Sequence places your selected clips in the order you set; neither picks the take for each cut or syncs your takes to the song.

Can BeatEdit read the song from my video clips?

No. Its page says it “only works with audio files (wav, mp3)” and can’t load audio from video clips, so you export the song as a WAV first. MVX AI reads the song file you drop in and finds the song in each take’s own audio to sync it.

What do they cost?

BeatEdit 2 for Premiere Pro is $99.99 for a single-user license, with a free trial, on 23 October 2026. MVX AI is a subscription from $29/mo, and the trial is 3 days for $1, with 5 analysis hours.
